Ending the call with Ellie wasn’t the difficult part, he didn’t have to do a single thing in order to achieve it, she’d done all of the work for him there. She had definitely left him worse for the wear from it though, his heart beating erratically in his chest. She had also, thankfully taken the phone purchase even better than he’d expected. It seemed she had done most of everything, actually. He’d stumbled over his words and trailed off on so many occasions, it was a wonder she’d stayed on the phone even half so long as she had. What the fuck had that been? He’d never had any issue speaking, no matter the subject or the person.

He’d been voted the smoothest talking student of his high school class even. He’d been head of the debate team, won countless medals, hell sealed so many deals using that talent alone that it was damn near unheard of. He’d never been shy that was for sure.

Lord only knew how Chance would have reacted in he had been in the limo with him to hear the latest phone conversation, even just from his end. He’d never be allowed to live it down, that was for damn sure. Chance! Fuck. Morgan cursed under his breath, irritated with his own oversight again due to his preoccupation with Ellie and events surrounding her. There was no way that chance would miss tomorrow night’s charity function, not for anything in the world.

Not only was it one of the best places to meet potential clients, schmooze older ones, and forge new alliances still- it was also sure to have handfuls of young, pretty socialites for him to focus on equally wooing for the night. He’d known the man his entire life literally, and trusted him more than anyone else alive. Yet, and it pained him to admit, if there were a man better looking than Morgan himself…Chance would be it. They’d often had standing bets concerning the females they met to see who could get to her first. They had been notorious for it in college, and while they weren’t so much any longer, they had only managed to do so, more secretly.

Which normally wouldn’t matter… except for Ellie.

Shit! When Chance finally caught sight of Ellie? Even without the dress that he’d chosen for her, he would be instantly drawn to her. She was the kind of woman that drew people of all types in to her. The kind of sweet, innocent flower that couldn’t help but appeal to just about everyone. And Chance? Fuck. Talk about charm, the man had plenty to spare. He could give it away to the poor and unmannered and still have enough to charm a nun out of her habit— yes, Morgan knew this, he had seen him do just exactly that. And the only way to keep him from trying that on Ellie? Would be Morgan admitting to the man that he was hanging up his playboy jacket to get this girl, and admit to just how he seriously he meant to keep her.
